Q: How do I know what players need to have new contracts?
A: If you run the WANTS command, either through the command reader or by
clicking "View Renegotiation Demands" from the contract control screen,
you will see a list of players whose contracts are expiring. Minor league
players who will still be eligible for minor league contracts next season
are not shown.
Q: How do I negotiate a new contract with a player?
A: Running the WANTS command, either through the command reader or by
clicking "View Renegotiation Demands" from the contract control screen,
will tell you the contract value that every player is demanding to sign
a new contract. You must then offer the player a contract with that value
(or more). The only time you would want to offer more is if you want to
give the player a longer contract. For example, if he is asking for $0.76
million, you could sign him for 3 years at $0.76 million value. But you
could sign him for 4 years if you instead gave him $0.80 million.
Q: How do I renegotiate a player's contract?
A: In DEL, renegotiations are identical to negotiating a new contract,
explained above.
Q: Why is there a restriction on the lengths of contracts?
A: This is to prevent players from getting tied up into long-term backup
contracts, which aren't generally seen in real-life sports. Usually the
long-term contracts go to the stars, with high salaries as well.
