New Installation

When downloading the game, select "save as" and save the .ZIP file to the location where you would like to have the game installed. (Your desktop is an easy location to find the game.)

Next, navigate to the location where you saved the game, and double-click the ZIP file. This should pull up a Windows Explorer window showing the contents of the file. Above the list is an icon "Extract all files". Click this, and select the location to save the extracted files (the default is to the same location where the ZIP file was saved).

Finally, to run the game, navigate to the location with the extracted games, and double-click the "Application" type file. For example, if you downloaded College Coach, you should double-click on "ccoach".

If you create a desktop icon to run the game, ensure that the "working directory" is set to the location where the file is located; otherwise the game will not be able to locate the data files.

Upgrading

If you download a new version of the game, there are two options for upgrading. First is to unzip the update into the same directory as the previous version. This is recommended if the two versions have the same version number, as the update will be able to use the old data files. If you choose to do this, it is always safest to back up the directory in case the update fails.

The second option is to create a new directory and install the new version into it (as if installing for the first time). If you have purchased the game, you will need to either re-enter the code when prompted, or copy the "register" file from the old directory into the new one.
