Like the draft command, the fa-bids command is rather complex. Again, your
bidding is divided into a certain number of groups, each of which may have
a maximum number of players signed out of it.
Following the "fa-bids" line should be a line with the number of groups you
will be listing, the maximum amount of salary cap space you want to use
when the bids are run, and the maximum number of players to sign. Following
should be each group.
The first line of a group includes the number of bids in the group (the
number of players to be bid on), the maximum number of those bids that
you would want to sign, and the maximum amount of salary cap space to spend
on players in the group. Following this line is each bid in the group. A
bid consists of a player ID number and the bid contract level, contract
duration, bonus type, and optionally the priority in
signing a player. Contracts are specified exactly as in the
contracts command, except that bonus options are
only none (0) or standard (1).
When free agent bidding runs, the players will be run sequentially,
auction-style. The order will be determined by the value of the bids placed
on the players. Thus just because you value player A more than player B
does not mean that player A will be signed first if other coaches do not
feel similarly. To give greater flexibility, you may assign priorities to
each player. When a certain player comes up for bidding, your team will
only bid on him if no players in that group with priority of more than one
greater than that player's remain to be run. Thus you can wait to try to
get your favorite players, risking not getting anybody at all.
Note: if a player is listed in two or more groups for the same team, priority
will go to the highest bid.
Example:
FA-BIDS
2 6.00 3
1 1
574 3.20 10 2 0
5 3
521 1.60 5 1 2
367 1.00 5 1 1
946 1.00 5 1 1
76 0.60 3 2 0
1357 0.40 2 2 0
will sign at most three players from two free agent groups. The first group
consists of one player (574), of which one can be signed (of course). The
second group has five players (521, 1357, 76, 367, and 946), of which only
three may be signed. In the second group, all bids will be passed until
player 521 runs. Players 76 and 1357 will only be bid on if players 521,
367, and 946 have all been signed already.
