CVBL: Portland Beats Memphis 106-104

Portland beat Memphis today, 106-104. But the big headlines in the game came from an incident involving Memphis players and coach Bob after the game. After the players disappeared into their respective locker rooms, Memphis players reportedly attacked coach, throwing him to the ground. Reporters waiting outside heard only pieces of the shouting, but the players were clearly upset by Bob's questionable calls late in the game. Memphis star Hayes was one of those involved, and was still upset about the situation during the post-game interviews. "I'm not free to comment on what happened," he said. "But I will tell you that I'm working my tail off every game and expect the same effort from my teammates and coaches."

Interviews with Portland players were a bit less exciting, with Smith giving the cliche line "we're just happy to come out with the win. Coach Bob and his team gave a good fight, but we were the better team today."

Portland was led by Smith (18 points, 10 assists, a steal), Jackson (28 points, 1 assists, a block), Vanderveer (11 points, 14 boards, 2 assists, a block). Memphis was led by Hayes (23 points, 0 assists, 3 blocks), Murray (14 points, 11 boards, 1 assists, a steal), Calloway (5 points, 2 steals).

After the win, Portland jump to 27-12. They hold at #1 in the Northwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. With this loss, Memphis fall to 25-14 and 12-5 at home. They stay at #1 in the Southwest and remain at #3 overall in the Western Conference.
