CVBL: Detroit Coach Gets Upset over Philadelphia

Detroit got just enough breaks to upset Philadelphia, 86-83. The pace of play was clearly dictated by Philadelphia, showing who was the better team. But Detroit came up with the right plays at the right times to convert more scoring chances and come away with the win.

"We got our share of luck today," acknowledged Detroit coach David Smith. "They pretty much dictated the game but we were able to get the job done when it mattered. Newman really helped us out there; we couldn't have pulled it off without him."

Detroit was led by Newman (14 points, 9 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 2 blocks), Baker (8 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, 4 blocks), Best (10 points, 3 steals). Philadelphia was led by Ferguson (16 points, 12 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 4 blocks), Williams (17 points, 13 boards, 1 assists), Conard (11 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, a block).

Detroit stand at 23-16 and 15-6 at home with this win. They remain at #1 in the Central and stay at #3 overall in the Eastern Conference. After the defeat, Philadelphia drop to 30-8. They stay at #1 in the Atlantic and remain at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference.
