CVBL: Memphis Pulls out the Win over Golden State
Memphis downed Golden State today 78-76, thanks to a solid effort by star Maxwell. The game lived up to its hype, with both teams having their moments but neither side able to dominate for any extended length of time. Said Maxwell after the game, "This one could have easily gone either way. We're just glad that we came out with the win." Coach Bob echoed the sentiments, saying "Golden State came out strong and ready to play, and we knew from the start that it would be a battle out there. Probably if we played them 10 times, both sides would get five wins. But we got the win today, and that's what counts."
Golden State players were disappointed after the game, and coach Perez Suarez had his hands full keeping their spirits up. "They know they played their hearts out today, and that it wasn't enough. That's a tough feeling. Especially for Chapman, who had one heck of a game but couldn't carry the whole team on his shoulders."
Memphis was led by Maxwell (16 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, a block), Sigler (8 points, 14 boards, 0 assists, a steal, 3 blocks), Keeney (15 points, 6 boards, 4 assists). Golden State was led by Chapman (7 points, 27 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals), Moore (23 points, 6 boards, 3 assists), Taylor (10 points, 9 assists, 2 steals).
With today's victory, Memphis improve to 32-9. They remain at #1 in the Southwest and stay at #2 overall in the Western Conference. Golden State fall to 6-33 and 6-14 at home. They stay at #5 in the Pacific and stay at #15 overall in the Western Conference.
