CVBL: Detroit Beats Denver 95-89
Newman led Detroit to victory today over Denver in a 95-89 game. "It was a tough one to lose," said losing coach Bob. "I thought we had a great chance going in, and even now I think we'd have a great chance in a rematch. But Newman made the difference for his team, and we really didn't have an answer today."
Detroit coach David Smith was equally admiring of his star. "Denver were very well prepared for this game, and our boys weren't really ready for what they faced out there. I like to believe that we'd play a better all-around game when we play them again, but we'll be happy riding Newman and getting the win today."
Detroit was led by Newman (22 points, 16 boards, 1 assists, a block), Fox (20 points, 2 assists), Best (6 points, 2 steals). Denver was led by Graham (37 points, 8 boards, 0 assists, a steal), Smiley (11 points, 8 boards, 0 assists, 2 steals), Beachum (9 points, 2 assists, a steal, a block).
After this victory, Detroit improve to 24-16. They stay at #1 in the Central and hold at #3 overall in the Eastern Conference. After this loss, Denver are now 20-19 and 13-6 at home. They stay at #5 in the Northwest and move down to #11 overall in the Western Conference.
