CVBL: Phoenix Wins
A solid outing by Whitfield led Phoenix to a 113-111 win over Oklahoma Cty. "Take away Whitfield, and we'd have won this thing," said Oklahoma Cty coach Bob. "It was a very close game most of the way, and he was the one that put Phoenix over the top. I thought we had the right game plan and executed well. What's sad is that I don't know what we'd do differently next time, except for hoping for a more mortal performance by him."
Phoenix coach Bob was happy for the win, but concerned about the team's play. "I didn't think this was a very good team win. Our players seemed tempted to sit around and watch Whitfield do his stuff. That was enough for the win today, but on another day maybe Whitfield will be injured or our opponents can counter him, and we'll need the rest of the players to step up as well."
Phoenix was led by Whitfield (24 points, 18 boards, 1 assists), Jeanlouis (17 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks), Calloway (28 points, a block). Oklahoma Cty was led by Plungis (21 points, 10 boards, 3 assists, a block), Pollard (27 points, 1 assists, a block), Sheppard (14 points, 5 boards, 8 assists).
With this win, Phoenix stand at 22-20 and 13-9 at home. They remain at #3 in the Pacific and remain at #8 overall in the Western Conference. Oklahoma Cty stand at 23-18 with today's defeat. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and hold at #6 overall in the Western Conference.
