CVBL: Minnesota Comes up Big Over LA Lakers
Minnesota downed LA Lakers today 92-88, thanks to a solid effort by star Smith. The game lived up to its hype, with both teams having their moments but neither side able to dominate for any extended length of time. Said Smith after the game, "This one could have easily gone either way. We're just glad that we came out with the win." Coach Bob echoed the sentiments, saying "LA Lakers came out strong and ready to play, and we knew from the start that it would be a battle out there. Probably if we played them 10 times, both sides would get five wins. But we got the win today, and that's what counts."
LA Lakers players were disappointed after the game, and coach Andreas Helmle had his hands full keeping their spirits up. "They know they played their hearts out today, and that it wasn't enough. That's a tough feeling. Especially for Monroe, who had one heck of a game but couldn't carry the whole team on his shoulders."
Minnesota was led by Smith (20 points, 5 assists, 2 steals), Dirks (25 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, a steal), Daniels (12 points, 8 boards, 1 assists, a steal, a block). LA Lakers was led by Monroe (20 points, 12 boards, 1 assists), Leonard (7 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, 4 blocks), Covington (13 points, 2 steals).
Minnesota ended their slump at 5 games, and stand at 23-19 and 12-7 at home. They hold at #3 in the Northwest and remain at #7 overall in the Western Conference. LA Lakers drop to 16-28 after the loss. They remain at #4 in the Pacific and remain at #14 overall in the Western Conference.
