CVBL: Portland Pulls out the Win over San Antonio
Smith continues to dominate the league and helped Portland post an expected win over San Antonio, 106-101. The game was a solid team effort, but Smith - a favorite for post-season honors - was outstanding, completely overshadowing a great performance by San Antonio key player, Galloway.
Smith's coach, Bob, had nothing but praise for his star. "He's just special. It's something just to sit back and watch him do his thing. He certainly brings pride to Portland fans everywhere." San Antonio coach Bob was concilliatory after the game as well. "When Smith is doing his thing, you just hope you can keep him under control. We didn't, though Galloway certainly did his part. We really thought we could win this game, so the locker room is pretty quiet right now. We'll just have to turn our focus to next week."
Portland was led by Smith (30 points, 9 boards, 0 assists, a steal), Vanderveer (15 points, 15 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks), Holmes (8 points, 8 boards, 11 assists, a steal). San Antonio was led by Galloway (26 points, 4 steals), Stroman (11 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, 3 blocks), Owens (22 points, 0 assists).
Portland are now 24-19 after the win. They hold at #4 in the Northwest and stay at #6 overall in the Western Conference. San Antonio are now 22-20 and 14-6 at home with this defeat. They move down to #3 in the Southwest and move down to #9 overall in the Western Conference.
