CVBL: Utah Beats Memphis
Utah overcame a great game by Maxwell, beating Memphis 78-74. "It's a team sport," said losing coach Bob. "If we had another couple players like Maxwell out there, we'd have won this game easily. But we didn't, so we didn't." Bob has been under fire lately, and the lackluster performance by his players (save Maxwell) certainly doesn't improve his job security any.
The normally-quiet Maxwell was less than satisfied after the game. "I feel betrayed - like I did my best and my teammates didn't. I don't know if it was coach's fault for not getting the team up, or if the other players just all had an off day at the same time. But this was a close game, we had our chances, and we didn't execute when we needed."
Utah was led by Robinson (15 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, 4 blocks), Perkins (13 points, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks), Hill (11 points, 11 boards, 1 assists, a block). Memphis was led by Maxwell (34 points, 6 boards, 0 assists, 3 blocks), Williams (15 points, 7 boards, 0 assists), Atkins (11 points, a steal, a block).
Utah stand at 31-14 with today's win. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and stay at #4 overall in the Western Conference. With today's defeat, Memphis are now 20-23 and 12-11 at home. They stay at #5 in the Southwest and stay at #12 overall in the Western Conference.
