CVBL: Memphis Pulls Out Win Over Chicago 108-98

Memphis overcame a great game by Mayes, beating Chicago 108-98. "It's a team sport," said losing coach Bob. "If we had another couple players like Mayes out there, we'd have won this game easily. But we didn't, so we didn't." Bob has been under fire lately, and the lackluster performance by his players (save Mayes) certainly doesn't improve his job security any.

The normally-quiet Mayes was less than satisfied after the game. "I feel betrayed - like I did my best and my teammates didn't. I don't know if it was coach's fault for not getting the team up, or if the other players just all had an off day at the same time. But this was a close game, we had our chances, and we didn't execute when we needed."

Memphis was led by Thomas (21 points, 11 boards, 3 assists, 3 blocks), Woodfin (18 points, 7 boards, 0 assists, 3 blocks), Demmy (8 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, a steal, 3 blocks). Chicago was led by Mayes (23 points, 3 assists, 4 steals), Darden (16 points, 16 boards, 0 assists, a steal, a block), Clinton (12 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, a block).

Memphis jump to 27-22 and 16-8 at home. They stay at #2 in the Southwest and hold at #6 overall in the Western Conference. Chicago keep stumbling with a losing streak of 7 games and stand at 20-28. They remain at #3 in the Central and remain at #11 overall in the Eastern Conference.
