CVBL: Portland Surprises Miami 113-101
A gutsy outing by Portland, combined with a few breaks, gave them a 113-101 upset of Miami. Miami was the favorite coming in, and it showed when they were sharp. But Miami played their hearts out and stuck around, which put them in position to capitalize on what chances they were given. "They played about the perfect game, given the team's talent," said Miami coach Bob. "[Portland coach] Bob did a splendid job getting them ready for the game, and they didn't give us anything for free."
Said Portland star King, "Coach just told us to go out there and stay focused. Told us that if we played a mistake-free game, it could be ours to win. And that's exactly what happened."
Portland was led by King (30 points, 8 assists), Hume (8 points, 17 assists, 2 steals), Guerrero (21 points, 3 blocks). Miami was led by Perry (19 points, 8 boards, 3 assists), Byrd (11 points, 1 assists, 3 blocks), Stewart (17 points, a steal).
Portland are now 28-20 and 19-8 at home with today's win. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and remain at #5 overall in the Western Conference. Miami fall to 32-16. They drop to #2 in the Southeast and fall to #4 overall in the Eastern Conference.
