CVBL: Memphis and Houston Down to the Wire

Houston failed to make the most of their chances, coming up short 96-87 against Memphis in today's contest. "They got a gift, no question in my mind," grumbled Houston coach Bob. "We outplayed them today, but just couldn't come up with the big plays when we were threatening to score. I just can't wait until the rematch; we'll show them who's really the best."

Memphis coach Bob saw things a little differently. "I'm proud of our defensive effort today. They avoided giving up the big plays, and really came through in the key situations. Bob may blame his offense, but they'd have been able to score if they didn't have good opposition."

Memphis was led by Washington (24 points, 8 boards, 0 assists, a block), Murray (19 points, 5 boards, 0 assists, a steal), Hayes (13 points, a steal, a block). Houston was led by Laboy (20 points), Sims (12 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, a steal), Lewis (16 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 2 blocks).

Memphis keep rolling with a winning streak of 9 games and stand at 34-14 and 17-5 at home. They stay at #1 in the Southwest and stay at #2 overall in the Western Conference. Houston are now 29-22 with the loss. They hold at #2 in the Southwest and remain at #6 overall in the Western Conference.
