CVBL: Detroit Needs Overtime To Down Golden State
Despite being heavy favorites in this afternoon's contest, Detroit had to go into overtime to beat Golden State. "A win's a win," said Coach David Smith after the game. "At the end of the season, that's all that matters." His players were less content with their performance. "If we'd played someone good, we wouldn't have gotten this outcome," said star Gilliam after the game. "We got lucky today with who we had on the schedule." Gilliam was one of few bright points for Detroit, and more than one of his teammates thanked him for pulling their rear ends out of the fire. "As bad as it was out there, we have lost if it weren't for him," said one player.
Detroit was led by Gilliam (33 points, 5 boards, 2 assists), Henderson (12 points, 18 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks), Kay (20 points, 9 boards, 3 assists). Golden State was led by Stanford (32 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, a block), Adkins (14 points, 12 boards, 1 assists, a block), Casterline (16 points, 3 assists, a block).
Detroit keep rolling with a winning streak of 16 games and improve to 49-5. They hold at #1 in the Central and hold at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference. Golden State drop to 14-41 and 10-19 at home with the defeat. They stay at #5 in the Pacific and hold at #14 overall in the Western Conference.
