CVBL: LA Lakers Takes out Denver in a Big Upset
Despite being dominated all day, underdog LA Lakers came away with the 105-90 upset of Denver. "What a strange game," remarked LA Lakers coach Andreas Helmle afterwards. "Denver were by far the better team today, but couldn't get the win. If I hadn't been keeping track of the score, I'd have thought we lost badly. But somehow we came out on top."
The sense of disbelief was apparent in the Denver locker room afterwards. "We thought we did everything right," said star Schmidt. "We executed our game plan, both on offense and defense, and did what we needed to do. But a few plays make or break the game, and those all went the wrong way. Just a demoralizing way to lose."
LA Lakers was led by Washington (9 points, 14 assists, a steal), Gavagan (9 points, 16 boards, 3 assists), Crandell (18 points, 8 boards, 0 assists). Denver was led by Schmidt (18 points, a steal), White (8 points, 13 boards, 0 assists), Beachum (13 points, a steal, a block).
LA Lakers improve to 17-38 and 12-16 at home. They remain at #4 in the Pacific and remain at #13 overall in the Western Conference. With today's defeat, Denver fall to 35-23. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and remain at #5 overall in the Western Conference.
