CVBL: Orlando Surprises Minnesota
A great outing by Wright was enough to offset a superior Minnesota team and key a 90-89 upset by Orlando. There's no question that Minnesota is the better team, and even after today's loss they remain ranked ahead of Orlando. But that wasn't important today, when Wright took over and carried his team to a win. "What a gift," grinned Orlando coach Bob. "The rest of the team got outplayed, but Wright stepped up and got us the win. No complaints, but we'd be surprised to get another win over Minnesota."
Said losing coach Bob, "What a tough way to lose. It seemed like we had everything under control today. We pretty much did what we wanted, except for Wright."
Orlando was led by Wright (31 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, a steal, 3 blocks), Vancourt (11 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, a steal, a block), Dixon (12 points, 9 boards, 1 assists, a steal, a block). Minnesota was led by Smith (27 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, 2 steals), Dirks (11 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals), Daniels (11 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, a block).
Orlando jump to 24-33 after the win. They remain at #3 in the Southeast and remain at #9 overall in the Eastern Conference. With this defeat, Minnesota are now 33-24 and 18-9 at home. They remain at #3 in the Northwest and hold at #7 overall in the Western Conference.
