CVBL: Detroit Wins in Blowout
Not that anybody expected today's Detroit-Toronto matchup to be terribly competitive, but this was almost comical. The 114-85 final score was enough of a headline, but the game wasn't even as close as that score indicated as Detroit coach David Smith played it conservative most of the game to avoid running up the score too much. "Boy, it's great to see our offense click like that," he said. "It's like a gourmet restaurant - everything on the menu looked good." Said losing coach Bob, "We were just outclassed, no question. We don't have the talent they do, and we weren't as prepared coming in. And it was definitely classy of David Smith to pull his key players halfway through the game."
Detroit was led by Graham (23 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, a steal), Henderson (13 points, 16 boards, 0 assists), Kay (19 points, 5 boards, 1 assists). Toronto was led by Chavis (19 points, a steal, 3 blocks), Murray (17 points, 1 assists, a steal), Wright (8 points, 9 boards, 2 assists).
Detroit jump to 44-14 and 22-6 at home after the victory. They remain at #1 in the Central and hold at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference. After the defeat, Toronto drop to 32-24. They remain at #2 in the Atlantic and remain at #4 overall in the Eastern Conference.
