CVBL: Phoenix Escapes in Overtime
A classic was played today, with Phoenix and Sacramento going into overtime and Phoenix coming out on top 96-95. The score was tight the entire way, with neither team ever able to get any meaningful advantage over the other. Said Phoenix coach Bob, "I know it's a cliche, but it was a game that nobody deserved to lose. They played just as well as we did, the only difference being one crucial play at the end that gave us the score. We all know it could have gone the other way just as easily."
Sacramento coach Bob was both exhausted and downcast after the game. "What a shame. After everything we put into this game, and how well and how hard we played the whole game, it really stings to come away with the loss. Our players, especially Westbrook, left it all out there. It wasn't a matter of one team wanting the win more than the other; Phoenix just got the break when it mattered, and that made the difference."
Phoenix was led by Whitfield (22 points, 18 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 2 blocks), Blackwell (15 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, a steal), Oh (15 points, a block). Sacramento was led by Westbrook (33 points, 0 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks), Crandell (16 points, 17 boards, 1 assists), Weaver (5 points, 4 assists, 7 steals, a block).
Phoenix are now 23-21 and 15-8 at home. They stay at #3 in the Pacific and hold at #9 overall in the Western Conference. With this loss, Sacramento fall to 26-19. They hold at #1 in the Pacific and hold at #3 overall in the Western Conference.
