CVBL: Memphis On a Roll
Anytime Memphis square off with Atlanta, unexpected things happen. Today it was Atlanta head coach Bob who gave Memphis bulletin-board material and ended up eating crow, thanks to some ill-timed comments he made earlier in the day. Two hours before game-time, Bob said that "Memphis shouldn't even show up tonight. We're pumped, we're on a hot streak, and we're just better. We're gonna win so big Memphis might never recover." After the game, the only one from Memphis to speak was head coach Bob, who said simply, "Scoreboard, baby." Final score: Memphis 126, Atlanta 83.
Memphis was led by Washington (20 points, 11 boards, 2 assists, a steal), Murray (26 points, 6 boards, 1 assists), Smith (22 points, 1 assists, a steal, a block). Atlanta was led by Collins (19 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, a steal, a block), Perry (14 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, a block), Mcnair (14 points, 1 assists, a block).
After this win, Memphis jump to 42-18 and 21-7 at home. They remain at #1 in the Southwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. Atlanta are now 18-41 with this loss. They move down to #4 in the Southeast and fall to #13 overall in the Eastern Conference.
