CVBL: Golden State Takes Out Detroit
Perhaps suffering from overconfidence, Detroit dropped a 102-76 game to underdog Golden State. Detroit coach David Smith battled unsuccessfully to get his players to take the game seriously, as they came in as heavy favorites. "What more can you do? We prepared as much for them as any other opponent, we made sure we came up with a custom game plan for them, but most of the players just expected Golden State to roll over dead."
Golden State coach Perez Suarez, on the other hand, was thrilled to come away with the win. "I don't know what it was, but I could see from the start that they weren't executing as sharply as normal. I knew we couldn't beat them if they played well, but I felt they were leaving just enough of an opening for us to steal a win. That's exactly what happened, and by the time they finally started to wake up we were well in control."
Golden State was led by Chapman (15 points, 15 boards, 1 assists), Richards (10 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, 3 blocks), Moore (13 points, 6 boards, 0 assists, 3 blocks). Detroit was led by Delgado (8 points, 11 boards, 1 assists, 4 blocks), Kay (13 points, 2 assists), Rausch (13 points, 6 boards, 0 assists).
Golden State jump to 16-46 and 13-19 at home after the victory. They hold at #5 in the Pacific and hold at #15 overall in the Western Conference. Detroit broke their tear at 5 games, and fall to 48-15. They stay at #1 in the Central and remain at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference.
