CVBL: Put it on the Board: Portland Wins

A collapse by Philadelphia led to a 125-107 beating by Portland, increasing the pressure on the Philadelphia coach. Bob had to suffer through the game as his players were ineffective and his former fans were heckling. To make matters worse, the team was dominated by hated Portland, a bad thing for any Philadelphia coach.

"That ---- man can't win a ---- game if his ---- life depended on it!" screamed one disgruntled fan, who is obviously tired of Philadelphia losing ways. While Philadelphia deny it, rumors about that they have already started a search for a new coach who can turn this franchise around.

It was just more fuel for the fire today when Portland took Philadelphia behind the woodpile for a 125-107 whooping. Although Vegas was predicting a Portland win, many people believed the Philadelphia certainly had the talent to knock them off. Wilson did everything in his power to help his coach, but in the end Smith led the Portland to victory.

"You hate to see somebody with Bob's character go through this. It's just a sad sight," commented Portland coach Bob. "We're obviously delighted to get the victory over such a worthy adversary in a big rivalry game like this, and all I can do is credit my players, my assistants, and our fans."

Portland was led by Smith (26 points, 14 assists, a steal), Jackson (21 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, 4 blocks), Kimbell (24 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks). Philadelphia was led by Wilson (5 points, 17 assists, 4 steals), Ziegler (28 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Burke (21 points, 6 boards, 0 assists).

With today's victory, Portland jump to 44-18. They stay at #1 in the Northwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. With today's loss, Philadelphia are now 35-28 and 26-8 at home. They stay at #3 in the Atlantic and stay at #6 overall in the Eastern Conference.
