CVBL: Washington Upends New York 90-82

An overconfident New York team overlooked Washington today, and ended up paying for it with a 90-82 loss. The mentality could be excused, as Washington came in as huge favorites and the game should have been a walk in the park. But some comments along those lines by New York players got Washington fired up and ready to play. Said New York star Crawford coming in, "We're not worried about this one. It's tough to take a team like Washington seriously, but it'll be a good tune-up and chance to try out our fifth-stringers."

"I don't blame them for being confident," said Washington coach Bob. "I'd have probably the same way coming in, if I were in his shoes, but you've got to be a little wiser in what you say in front of the press. Our team really took it personally, especially Borenstein who was singled out as the 'leader of the losers', and we were ready to let them have it when the game started."

Washington was led by Borenstein (15 points, 17 boards, 0 assists), Taylor (15 points, 6 boards, 2 assists), Griffin (11 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, a steal, a block). New York was led by Crawford (17 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks), Powell (12 points, 12 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Gorman (10 points, a steal).

Washington stand at 25-45 and 14-19 at home with the win. They hold at #3 in the Southeast and hold at #12 overall in the Eastern Conference. New York stand at 49-20 after the loss. They stay at #1 in the Atlantic and remain at #2 overall in the Eastern Conference.
