CVBL: Memphis Tops Denver
The fans got what they came out for, as Memphis won a seesaw 88-81 victory over Denver. "What a great game to have been a part of," said Memphis star Canul. "The momentum kept changing and neither team really had a chance to run away with the game. It just came down to having more in the tank at the end, and that was us."
Denver coach Bob was less enthusiastic about the game. "We had our chances to win the game, but didn't convert them. I'm most bothered that it seemed like we faded down the stretch; I think we may need to spend a little more time working on conditioning in the future. Regardless, it was a great game. Canul and [Denver star] Harrison really put on a show for the fans."
Memphis was led by Canul (17 points, 20 boards, 1 assists, 3 blocks), Hunter (5 points, 10 assists, 6 steals), Pittman (13 points, 3 steals, a block). Denver was led by Harrison (10 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, a block), Downs (8 points, 13 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks), Shaw (18 points, a steal, a block).
With this victory, Memphis improve to 52-18 and 28-8 at home. They stay at #1 in the Southwest and stay at #2 overall in the Western Conference. With the defeat, Denver fall to 40-31. They stay at #2 in the Northwest and hold at #5 overall in the Western Conference.
