CVBL: Golden State Does What it Takes to Stun Memphis 113-97
Perhaps suffering from overconfidence, Memphis dropped a 113-97 game to underdog Golden State. Memphis coach Bob battled unsuccessfully to get his players to take the game seriously, as they came in as heavy favorites. "What more can you do? We prepared as much for them as any other opponent, we made sure we came up with a custom game plan for them, but most of the players just expected Golden State to roll over dead."
Golden State coach Perez Suarez, on the other hand, was thrilled to come away with the win. "I don't know what it was, but I could see from the start that they weren't executing as sharply as normal. I knew we couldn't beat them if they played well, but I felt they were leaving just enough of an opening for us to steal a win. That's exactly what happened, and by the time they finally started to wake up we were well in control."
Golden State was led by Adkins (15 points, 20 boards, 5 assists, a block), Moore (19 points, a steal, a block), Stanford (27 points, 0 assists). Memphis was led by Dolly (18 points, a steal, a block), Smith (18 points), Jensen (12 points, 3 assists).
Golden State broke their slide at 8 games, and stand at 19-54 and 15-22 at home. They remain at #5 in the Pacific and hold at #15 overall in the Western Conference. With this defeat, Memphis fall to 50-23. They have won the Southwest crown and hold at #3 overall in the Western Conference.
