CVBL: Miami Survives Chicago in Overtime
Torres had a great effort today, helping Miami avoid disaster and beat Chicago 113-105 in overtime. After the game, Torres was thrilled to get the win but upset with his teammates' effort. "I don't know what they were thinking at the start. I guess they thought our reputation would get us the win, but it looked to me like the score was 0-0 at the beginning and we needed to put some points on the board to win. Whatever it was, I had to yell and scream for half the game before we got any sort of team effort going. I guess it was barely enough - any less and we wouldn't have gotten into overtime to begin with."
Chicago coach Bob was impressed with Torres, but disappointed that his chance slipped through his fingers. "We had our chances and didn't make the best of them," he said. "It's partly because of Torres's play, and partly because of our own mistakes."
Miami was led by Torres (14 points, 13 assists, a steal), Perry (11 points, 10 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks), Hively (6 points, 13 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, a block). Chicago was led by Wilson (9 points, 6 boards, 24 assists, 6 steals), Meyers (32 points, 13 boards, 1 assists, a block), Joyner (25 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, 5 blocks).
Miami improve to 47-27 and 26-11 at home with this victory. They remain at #1 in the Southeast and stay at #3 overall in the Eastern Conference. Chicago fall to 41-33 with the loss. They hold at #4 in the Central and hold at #8 overall in the Eastern Conference.
