CVBL: Detroit Wins Big
Detroit showed who was the better team tonight with a convincing 124-101 win over Philadelphia. Although not exactly a blowout, Detroit coach David Smith and his players outplayed Philadelphia from start to end. "I was hoping for a better outcome," said Philadelphia coach Bob during a post-game interview. "But they just overpowered us, and there was nothing we could do to adjust. David Smith's team was more talented and better-prepared, and it would have taken quite a bit of luck for us to overcome that."
The loss was tough on Philadelphia fans, who had expected great things from their team after some offseason moves. "I think reality is starting to sink in," said one team. "We didn't expect to see other teams outplaying us this badly, but Detroit sure made their point."
Detroit was led by Merriman (21 points, 4 blocks), Bigelow (10 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, a steal, 2 blocks), Mcmillan (16 points, a steal). Philadelphia was led by Alston (5 points, 22 assists), Hargrove (23 points, 2 blocks), Phelan (18 points, a steal, 2 blocks).
With this win, Detroit improve to 54-21. They have clinched the Central crown and remain at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference. With this defeat, Philadelphia stand at 52-22 and 29-8 at home. They hold at #1 in the Atlantic and stay at #2 overall in the Eastern Conference.
