CVBL: Minnesota 112, Denver 103 in Shocker
Minnesota did what nobody thought possible, derailing powerhouse Denver in one of the season's big upsets. Minnesota fans filled the streets after the win, setting off a party that lasted most of the night. "We showed those wimps who is boss," said one fan who appeared a little tipsy. "We'll kick them any time." Although few in the league would agree with such a comment, Minnesota certainly did make a big impression on Denver during their 112-103 win.
"I thought we had scouted them well, but Bob really surprised us," said losing coach Bob after the game. "He had his team executing better than they have all year, and they really outplayed us. This was no fluke - if they can play like that every week, they'll be a force to contend with." However, few in the league expect a performance like that from Minnesota for a while, as the team has had problems with consistancy.
Minnesota was led by Edwards (17 points, 14 boards, 1 assists, 2 steals, a block), Evans (8 points, a steal), Boll (21 points, 0 assists, a steal). Denver was led by Simmons (27 points, 14 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks), Stith (20 points, 8 boards, 0 assists, a block), Dixon (24 points).
After today's victory, Minnesota improve to 22-54 and 15-25 at home. They stay at #5 in the Northwest and hold at #12 overall in the Western Conference. Denver stand at 57-20 with today's loss. They have clinched the Northwest championship and remain at #1 overall in the Western Conference.
