CVBL: Phoenix Surprises Philadelphia
A great outing by Adams was enough to offset a superior Philadelphia team and key a 122-100 upset by Phoenix. There's no question that Philadelphia is the better team, and even after today's loss they remain ranked ahead of Phoenix. But that wasn't important today, when Adams took over and carried his team to a win. "What a gift," grinned Phoenix coach Bob. "The rest of the team got outplayed, but Adams stepped up and got us the win. No complaints, but we'd be surprised to get another win over Philadelphia."
Said losing coach Bob, "What a tough way to lose. It seemed like we had everything under control today. We pretty much did what we wanted, except for Adams."
Phoenix was led by Adams (23 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, 2 steals, a block), Cruz (8 points, a block), Wilcox (11 points, 6 boards, 6 assists, a steal). Philadelphia was led by Hargrove (29 points, 5 boards, 0 assists), Phelan (14 points, 12 boards, 4 assists), Alston (11 points, a steal).
With today's victory, Phoenix are now 40-37 and 23-15 at home. They remain at #2 in the Pacific and stay at #7 overall in the Western Conference. Philadelphia are now 53-25. They have won the Atlantic championship and stay at #2 overall in the Eastern Conference.
