CVBL: David Smith Watches Detroit Win
Merriman led Detroit to victory today over Indiana in a 97-87 game. "It was a tough one to lose," said losing coach Coach Hitch. "I thought we had a great chance going in, and even now I think we'd have a great chance in a rematch. But Merriman made the difference for his team, and we really didn't have an answer today."
Detroit coach David Smith was equally admiring of his star. "Indiana were very well prepared for this game, and our boys weren't really ready for what they faced out there. I like to believe that we'd play a better all-around game when we play them again, but we'll be happy riding Merriman and getting the win today."
Detroit was led by Merriman (29 points, 5 boards, 1 assists), Marko (18 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks), Duckworth (7 points, 8 assists, 3 steals). Indiana was led by Harvey (24 points, 16 boards, 0 assists, a block), Cato (8 points, a steal), Love (22 points, 5 boards, 1 assists).
Detroit are now 57-21. They have won the Central title and hold at #1 overall in the Eastern Conference. Indiana have lost their last 9 games and are now 20-57 and 15-24 at home. They hold at #5 in the Central and stay at #15 overall in the Eastern Conference.
