CVBL: New York Go Up 1-0 in Eastern Conference First Round
New York are leading Detroit in the Eastern Conference First Round 1-0, pulling off the upset and beating Detroit in a game where nobody gave them much of a chance. Their prospects certainly looked bleak on paper, with most predictions giving Detroit a solid win thanks to better skill at most positions. But head coach Bob came up with a marvelous game plan and kept Detroit coach David Smith guessing most of the game. This, as well as a number of solid performances by Speight and others, gave New York the edge they needed to come out on top. "I think we caught them by surprise," said Bob after the game. "They played like they expected the win to be handed to them, but we made some adjustments after studying their tendencies and it paid off."
New York was led by Speight (17 points, 6 boards, 9 assists, 2 steals), Stoute (8 points, 18 boards, 1 assists, a block), Crawford (9 points, 3 assists, 5 blocks). Detroit was led by Delgado (14 points, 13 boards, 1 assists, a block), Fox (18 points, 0 assists, a block), Johnson (9 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, a steal).
