CVBL: New York Outplays a Better Detroit Team 102-97
New York lead Detroit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals 1-0 with a 102-97 upset keyed by Crawford's great play. There's no question that Detroit is the better team, and even after today's loss they remain ranked ahead of New York. But that wasn't important today, when Crawford took over and carried his team to a win. "What a gift," grinned New York coach Bob. "The rest of the team got outplayed, but Crawford stepped up and got us the win. No complaints, but we'd be surprised to get another win over Detroit."
Said losing coach David Smith, "What a tough way to lose. It seemed like we had everything under control today. We pretty much did what we wanted, except for Crawford."
New York was led by Crawford (20 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, 6 blocks), Speight (20 points, 5 boards, 6 assists, 4 steals), Stoute (14 points, 18 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks). Detroit was led by Fox (22 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks), Delgado (17 points, 10 boards, 1 assists, a block), Graham (22 points, 2 blocks).
