CVBL: Washington All Over Phoenix
Anytime Washington square off with Phoenix, unexpected things happen. Today it was Phoenix head coach Bob who gave Washington bulletin-board material and ended up eating crow, thanks to some ill-timed comments he made earlier in the day. Two hours before game-time, Bob said that "Washington shouldn't even show up tonight. We're pumped, we're on a hot streak, and we're just better. We're gonna win so big Washington might never recover." After the game, the only one from Washington to speak was head coach Bob, who said simply, "Scoreboard, baby." Final score: Washington 111, Phoenix 78.
Washington was led by Harrington (15 points, 19 boards, 2 assists, a block), Hargrove (24 points, 5 boards, 0 assists, a steal), Evans (12 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks). Phoenix was led by Whitfield (11 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, 3 blocks), Wilson (11 points, 1 assists, 3 blocks), Jeanlouis (12 points, 0 assists, 2 blocks).
With this victory, Washington jump to 2-1. They improve to #1 in the Southeast and improve to #3 overall in the Eastern Conference. After the defeat, Phoenix stand at 1-2 and 0-2 at home. They remain at #3 in the Pacific and fall to #11 overall in the Western Conference.
