CVBL: Detroit 102, Toronto 79
It has been a nightmare season for veteran coach Bob and his team. The bright points have been few and far between, as the team is looking for somewhere to hide. Today's game was equally painful, as the team opened up strong but collapsed down the stretch, failing to take advantages of numerous opportunities to get back in the game. Newman helped put the nail in the coffin today with his outstanding game.
"Bob talked a lot of junk before the start of the season." stated Detroit Newman. "They may be one of the worst teams in the league, but we know that everyone in that locker room wants to play just a little harder when they see Toronto on their schedule."
"Sure, they do stink." added head coach David Smith, "but look at what happened when teams have been overconfident against them. Not that I can really blame them. If we were that pathetic, I think I would rather play all rookies and lose that way then be embarrassed."
Detroit was led by Newman (16 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 3 blocks), Fox (11 points, 3 assists, a steal), Baker (14 points, 0 assists, 2 blocks). Toronto was led by Jackson (11 points, 5 assists, 2 steals), Joyner (8 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks), Gavagan (8 points, 3 steals).
Detroit improve to 2-1. They improve to #2 in the Central and advance to #6 overall in the Eastern Conference. Toronto drop to 0-4 and 0-3 at home with today's loss. They drop to #5 in the Atlantic and drop to #15 overall in the Eastern Conference.
