CVBL: Memphis and Houston Down to the Wire
Memphis beat Houston today, 107-97. But the big headlines in the game came from an incident involving Houston players and coach Bob after the game. After the players disappeared into their respective locker rooms, Houston players reportedly attacked coach, throwing him to the ground. Reporters waiting outside heard only pieces of the shouting, but the players were clearly upset by Bob's questionable calls late in the game. Houston star Howard was one of those involved, and was still upset about the situation during the post-game interviews. "I'm not free to comment on what happened," he said. "But I will tell you that I'm working my tail off every game and expect the same effort from my teammates and coaches."
Interviews with Memphis players were a bit less exciting, with Thomas giving the cliche line "we're just happy to come out with the win. Coach Bob and his team gave a good fight, but we were the better team today."
Memphis was led by Thomas (22 points, 7 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 2 blocks), Hunter (7 points, 4 steals), Canul (9 points, 16 boards, 2 assists, a steal, 3 blocks). Houston was led by Howard (27 points, 0 assists, 2 blocks), Woods (14 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Taylor (6 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks).
Memphis stand at 11-3. They stay at #1 in the Southwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. Houston are now 8-5 and 7-3 at home. They fall to #3 in the Southwest and drop to #6 overall in the Western Conference.
