CVBL: Golden State Surprises San Antonio
Golden State came away with the shocker today, as San Antonio self-destructed and handed them the 110-104 win. The outcome was one that even the hardiest of Golden State fans would have predicted. "Our game plan was to try to stick around be close enough that maybe we could get lucky," said Golden State coach Perez Suarez. "I hate to admit it, but we all know that if San Antonio is on top of its game, there's nothing we can do to beat them. Anyway, the plan worked - we kept things close and were able to capitalize when the game was handed to us."
San Antonio coach Bob took a lot of heat afterwards, especially when it was learned that he was already preparing for the team's next opponent. "It was a risk, of course, but at some point you've got to weigh the advantages of extra time preparing for Golden State against extra time preparing for a real opponent. Anyway, that's not why we lost - we lost from our mental mistakes, not from being underprepared for Golden State."
Golden State was led by Chapman (31 points, 17 boards, 6 assists, 2 steals), Taylor (12 points, 18 assists, a steal, a block), Hannah (23 points, 7 boards, 1 assists, 3 blocks). San Antonio was led by Gorman (14 points, 14 assists, a steal, a block), Owens (34 points, 2 assists, a block), Williams (18 points, 1 assists, a steal, a block).
Golden State broke their slide at 10 games, and are now 2-12 and 2-4 at home. They stay at #5 in the Pacific and remain at #15 overall in the Western Conference. San Antonio fall to 7-8 with this loss. They hold at #3 in the Southwest and hold at #10 overall in the Western Conference.
