CVBL: Memphis Snatches Win over LA Lakers
LA Lakers failed to make the most of their chances, coming up short 81-75 against Memphis in today's contest. "They got a gift, no question in my mind," grumbled LA Lakers coach Andreas Helmle. "We outplayed them today, but just couldn't come up with the big plays when we were threatening to score. I just can't wait until the rematch; we'll show them who's really the best."
Memphis coach Bob saw things a little differently. "I'm proud of our defensive effort today. They avoided giving up the big plays, and really came through in the key situations. Andreas Helmle may blame his offense, but they'd have been able to score if they didn't have good opposition."
Memphis was led by Hunter (6 points, 14 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks), Canul (6 points, 22 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Tompkins (20 points, a block). LA Lakers was led by Vest (7 points, 23 boards, 3 assists, a steal), Richardson (25 points, 5 boards, 0 assists, a block), Jenkins (19 points, 5 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks).
Memphis have been victorious in the past 8 games and jump to 14-3. They remain at #1 in the Southwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. LA Lakers are now 2-13 and 2-6 at home. They drop to #5 in the Pacific and fall to #15 overall in the Western Conference.
