CVBL: Detroit Pull Ahead 1-0 in CVBL Finals
Detroit are ahead in the CVBL Finals 1-0 after a 105-93 defeat of Oklahoma Cty, led by Newman's great game. Although Oklahoma Cty certainly planned for Newman in their pre-game strategy, stopping him during the game turned out to be more of a challenge. "We thought we knew how to beat Detroit, but we were dead wrong," said Oklahoma Cty coach Bob. "We figured we'd try to put them out of their game plan and try to limit Newman's effectiveness, but it simply didn't happen - he was just too good."
Said Newman, "I knew I had a target on my back, and took it as a challenge. If they're going to change their game plan to stop me, it gives me that much more desire to step up and perservere. Anyway, they know what I can do now, so we'll see if they dare try this strategy again." Tune in next time.
Detroit was led by Newman (16 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks), Best (6 points, 2 steals, a block), Delgado (15 points, 12 boards, 3 assists). Oklahoma Cty was led by Kimbell (20 points, 1 assists, a steal, 5 blocks), Deramus (6 points, 3 steals, a block), Hodges (28 points).
