CVBL: Washington Almost Knocked off by Boston
Boston came into this game being told by fans, the press, and Vegas that they had no business being on the same field with Washington. They proved everybody wrong as Knott led them to a tie at the end of regulation. In the end though, the talent and depth of Washington was just too much and the favorites picked up the win in overtime, 123-122.
Harrington paced Washington, who looked surprisingly vulnerable in this game. As the game went to overtime, Washington own fans could be heard heckling them with chants of "Overrated". Apparantly that was enough to get the team fired up, and they were able to prevail. An exhausted coach Bob had few positive comments after the game. "Man, they gave us all we could handle. I don't know where our focus was tonight. Fortunately we woke up in time."
Coach Bob was pleased with his team's effort, but disappointed by the results. "Obviously you want to pick up the win. We relish the role of being the underdog. We fought the good fight, but in the end they were just too much for us. This is just another step in our goal of becoming a powerhouse."
Washington was led by Harrington (13 points, 14 boards, 1 assists, a steal, 5 blocks), Long (25 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, a block), Brown (6 points, a steal, 2 blocks). Boston was led by Knott (39 points, 10 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Mcneil (15 points, 3 steals), Brown (22 points, 0 assists, 4 blocks).
Washington improve to 14-12 and 10-3 at home with the victory. They stay at #1 in the Southeast and hold at #3 overall in the Eastern Conference. Boston fall to 10-14. They stay at #3 in the Atlantic and drop to #12 overall in the Eastern Conference.
