CVBL: Portland Upends Memphis in Overtime 128-126
Smith went on fire for 54 points, helping Portland to take Memphis to overtime and come away with the 128-126 win. The game was expected to be an easy win for Memphis, who came in as heavy favorites. Even when it went into overtime, most watching the game expected Memphis to come out on top. But as things wound down, it was clear that Portland was the better team out there today.
"It's tough to get respect in this league," said Portland coach Bob. "Just before we started overtime, I overheard the TV commentators talking with Memphis coach Bob. They were asking him what had happened to his team that they didn't put us away. How they missed some chances to win the game. And how they were going to snap out of it and put us in our place in overtime. I'll tell you how - we outplayed them today and deserved the win. Smith led the way, and the rest of the team lined up behind him."
Portland was led by Smith (54 points, 5 boards, 12 assists, 7 steals), Vanderveer (18 points, 10 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks), Mcneil (17 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, a block). Memphis was led by Maxwell (30 points, 5 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks), Sigler (10 points, 20 boards, 1 assists, a block), Keeney (20 points, 10 boards, 2 assists).
