CVBL: Portland and Dallas Down to the Wire
Portland overcame a great game by Kay, beating Dallas 86-79. "It's a team sport," said losing coach Bob. "If we had another couple players like Kay out there, we'd have won this game easily. But we didn't, so we didn't." Bob has been under fire lately, and the lackluster performance by his players (save Kay) certainly doesn't improve his job security any.
The normally-quiet Kay was less than satisfied after the game. "I feel betrayed - like I did my best and my teammates didn't. I don't know if it was coach's fault for not getting the team up, or if the other players just all had an off day at the same time. But this was a close game, we had our chances, and we didn't execute when we needed."
Portland was led by King (13 points, 9 assists, 3 blocks), Hume (7 points, 9 assists, 4 steals), Virtue (10 points, 1 assists, 2 steals). Dallas was led by Kay (22 points, 9 boards, 1 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks), Robinson (15 points, 11 boards, 1 assists), Burker (6 points, 16 boards, 0 assists).
Portland improve to 16-11 and 11-3 at home. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and advance to #4 overall in the Western Conference. Dallas fall to 16-11 after this loss. They remain at #2 in the Southwest and drop to #5 overall in the Western Conference.
