CVBL: LA Lakers Overcomes the Odds
LA Lakers pulled off a huge upset today, beating Denver 90-77. "An easy game on the schedule," remarked some Denver players a couple weeks ago. "It'll be a nice day to rest up between some tougher games." Unfortunately those words were overheard by a reporter and ended up in the LA Lakers bulletin board. "No question, we were fired up about this game," said star Carter afterwards. "Coach posted the newspaper clipping up, and we've been getting ready for this game ever since."
"I've never seen this team so eager to get out there and do damage before," said the winning coach, Andreas Helmle, during his postgame interview. "I guess Bob ought to be putting duct tape over his players' mouths."
LA Lakers was led by Carter (16 points, 19 boards, 0 assists, a steal, 6 blocks), Bailey (14 points, 11 boards, 2 assists), Singleton (17 points, 5 boards, 0 assists, a steal). Denver was led by Dossman (20 points, a steal, a block), Upshur (15 points, 0 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks), Smith (6 points, 3 steals, a block).
LA Lakers are now 10-19 and 7-6 at home. They remain at #5 in the Pacific and hold at #15 overall in the Western Conference. Denver halted their tear at 6 games, and fall to 19-9. They stay at #1 in the Northwest and drop to #3 overall in the Western Conference.
