CVBL: New York Stumbles, Denver Win
Denver pulled off the 111-108 upset of New York today, thanks to a mistake-filled game. "We stank," said losing coach Bob. "We beat them around like high-schoolers whenever we played like we usually do, but that wasn't often enough. There's just no excuse for that type of play. I suppose we just got overconfident; I mean New York isn't exactly a top-notch team. But we sure stank it up out there."
Denver coach Bob focused more on the positives. "Bob can say what he wants, but we really managed to knock them out of their usual plan. Would that have happened if they weren't playing anybody? He makes it sound like they gave the game away, but the truth is that we played with them the whole way and were in position to capitalize when our chances came."
Denver was led by Phillips (16 points, 11 boards, 2 assists, a block), Mcclendon (8 points, 2 steals), Banks (18 points). New York was led by Crawford (16 points, 12 boards, 1 assists, 5 blocks), Jackson (27 points, 0 assists, a steal, a block), Velazquez (20 points, 6 boards, 0 assists, a steal, a block).
Denver improve to 18-12. They stay at #3 in the Northwest and hold at #6 overall in the Western Conference. With the defeat, New York are now 21-7 and 11-6 at home. They stay at #1 in the Atlantic and remain at #2 overall in the Eastern Conference.
