CVBL: Denver Coasts Past Portland

Stanford was unstoppable today, leading Denver to a 98-79 win over Portland. "I've never seen anything like that," said Portland star King. "Stanford just flat-out dominated, and there was nothing any of us could do about it." Agreed coach Bob, "He's an excellent talent with an excellent coach. I'm afraid that we'll be seeing more of him down the road."

Stanford refused to get caught up in the excitement, however. "I just did what coach told me to do," he said. "And we couldn't have won without my teammates doing their best as well." While true, Stanford certainly increased the margin of victory from a close call to a solid win.

Denver was led by Stanford (5 points, 20 boards, 1 assists), Flournoy (24 points, 2 blocks), Simmons (14 points, 8 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks). Portland was led by King (19 points, 4 assists), Virtue (18 points), Harper (5 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks).

With the victory, Denver stand at 20-10 and 13-5 at home. They hold at #1 in the Northwest and stay at #2 overall in the Western Conference. With the defeat, Portland stand at 16-12. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and hold at #5 overall in the Western Conference.
