CVBL: Washington 107, Memphis 100 in Shocker
Washington overcame huge odds and a great Memphis team to pull off a big upset today. The game begin with a yawn, as nobody in the stadium except for the Washington player and coach Bob thought the game would turn out this way. But as the game progressed and Washington stayed with Memphis and started pulling ahead, the electricity in the air began to build. By the end, fans of both sides knew they had witnessed one of the great performances ever.
Even Memphis coach Bob was impressed. "Normally in an upset, the favorite has to really screw things up. We didn't play magnificently, but we didn't play badly either. You just have to give credit to Bob and his team. Griffin played especially well for them; I don't think anyone really expected that sort of game from him."
Washington was led by Griffin (17 points, 26 boards, 2 assists), Scroggins (24 points, 0 assists), Smith (15 points). Memphis was led by Sigler (15 points, 12 boards, 1 assists, 3 blocks), Hayes (21 points, 4 blocks), Dolly (12 points, 1 assists, 2 blocks).
With this victory, Washington jump to 8-23. They remain at #5 in the Southeast and remain at #14 overall in the Eastern Conference. Memphis are now 22-7 and 13-3 at home with this loss. They hold at #1 in the Southwest and hold at #3 overall in the Western Conference.
