CVBL: Utah Cruises to 110-95 Win over Memphis
A collapse by Memphis led to a 110-95 beating by Utah, increasing the pressure on the Memphis coach. Bob had to suffer through the game as his players were ineffective and his former fans were heckling. To make matters worse, the team was dominated by hated Utah, a bad thing for any Memphis coach.
"That ---- man can't win a ---- game if his ---- life depended on it!" screamed one disgruntled fan, who is obviously tired of Memphis losing ways. While Memphis deny it, rumors about that they have already started a search for a new coach who can turn this franchise around.
It was just more fuel for the fire today when Utah took Memphis behind the woodpile for a 110-95 whooping. Although Vegas was predicting a Utah win, many people believed the Memphis certainly had the talent to knock them off. Smith did everything in his power to help his coach, but in the end Henderson led the Utah to victory.
"You hate to see somebody with Bob's character go through this. It's just a sad sight," commented Utah coach Coach Young. "We're obviously delighted to get the victory over such a worthy adversary in a big rivalry game like this, and all I can do is credit my players, my assistants, and our fans."
Utah was led by Henderson (30 points, 17 boards, 2 assists, a steal, a block), Jackson (19 points, a steal, 3 blocks), Bowling (17 points, a block). Memphis was led by Smith (15 points, 2 steals, a block), Beard (19 points, a steal), Gill (12 points, 0 assists, a block).
Utah jump to 17-13. They hold at #2 in the Northwest and improve to #5 overall in the Western Conference. Memphis stand at 14-16 and 10-5 at home after today's loss. They hold at #4 in the Southwest and stay at #10 overall in the Western Conference.
