CVBL: Charlotte Stuns New York 115-97
A long string of mistakes added up, allowing underdog Charlotte to come out with a 115-97 upset of New York. "We may have a great ranking," said New York coach Bob, "but nobody's going to win many games playing like that. We got to where we are by a combination of talent, game plan, and solid execution. But the execution and game plan went out the window today, and Charlotte took the gift win."
Charlotte coach Bob was nearly as surprised afterwards. "That sure wasn't what we had prepared for. We figured we were going to have to battle to avoid the blowout, but they just self-destructed out there and gave us the win. We'll take it, of course, but we don't expect to get that lucky in the future."
Charlotte was led by Hall (10 points, a steal), Richards (20 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, a block), Williams (15 points, 3 assists, a steal, a block). New York was led by Battle (20 points, a block), Velazquez (18 points), Powell (14 points, 11 boards, 0 assists).
Charlotte stand at 9-22 and 7-10 at home. They stay at #5 in the Southeast and hold at #14 overall in the Eastern Conference. New York stand at 22-9. They stay at #2 in the Atlantic and hold at #4 overall in the Eastern Conference.
