CVBL: Phoenix Coach Gets Upset over Toronto
Coming in as heavy underdogs, Phoenix turned some heads today with a solid 106-97 win over Toronto. Said one broadcaster, "I didn't know Phoenix were that good, quite frankly. They really haven't done much all season, but the way they came in and handled Toronto showed what they're capable of."
The thoughts were echoed by Toronto coach Bob. "We had pretty thorough film sessions coming into the game, and we never saw them execute that well. [Phoenix coach] Bob did a great job getting them ready, and we'll have to see if this was a one-time performance or if they can maintain that level of play."
Phoenix was led by Virtue (18 points, 5 steals, a block), Mercer (5 points, 5 boards, 14 assists, a steal), Paskowitz (27 points, a block). Toronto was led by Creer (12 points, 10 assists, 3 steals), Perkins (17 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, a block), Wright (10 points, 10 boards, 0 assists, 2 blocks).
Phoenix jump to 16-16 and 11-9 at home with this win. They remain at #3 in the Pacific and hold at #10 overall in the Western Conference. Toronto stand at 14-17 after today's loss. They remain at #4 in the Atlantic and fall to #8 overall in the Eastern Conference.
