CVBL: Denver All Over Utah
The Utah coach and players looked bewildered today, as they were steamrolled 102-60 by Denver. "I'm not sure they knew what hit them," said Denver coach Bob. "It didn't really seem like they came out with much of a plan, instead playing like a pickup team. I hate to criticize [Utah coach] Coach Young, but I don't think he did his job preparing for this game."
That has been an increasingly frequent impression in Utah games, leading many supporters to call for the coach's head. The players tend to avoid the matter, but today was the final straw for Utah star Brown. "We couldn't believe what we were hearing in practices. Stuff like, 'just go out and do your best and good things will happen.' He didn't show us any film of Denver, and we really came out today with no idea what to expect. I try to be a team player and all, but when the coach isn't doing his job, we're not going to win."
Denver was led by Beard (30 points), Stanford (8 points, 11 boards, 0 assists, a steal, 2 blocks), Fripp (13 points, 2 steals). Utah was led by Brown (17 points, 7 boards, 2 assists), Edmonds (8 points, 11 boards, 0 assists, a steal, a block), Banks (12 points, a block).
Denver have been victorious in the past 5 games and are now 24-10 and 15-5 at home. They stay at #1 in the Northwest and remain at #2 overall in the Western Conference. Utah stand at 12-22. They drop to #5 in the Northwest and move down to #12 overall in the Western Conference.
