CVBL: Portland Beats Philadelphia 112-106
Portland beat Philadelphia today, 112-106. But the big headlines in the game came from an incident involving Philadelphia players and coach Bob after the game. After the players disappeared into their respective locker rooms, Philadelphia players reportedly attacked coach, throwing him to the ground. Reporters waiting outside heard only pieces of the shouting, but the players were clearly upset by Bob's questionable calls late in the game. Philadelphia star Blunt was one of those involved, and was still upset about the situation during the post-game interviews. "I'm not free to comment on what happened," he said. "But I will tell you that I'm working my tail off every game and expect the same effort from my teammates and coaches."
Interviews with Portland players were a bit less exciting, with Smith giving the cliche line "we're just happy to come out with the win. Coach Bob and his team gave a good fight, but we were the better team today."
Portland was led by Smith (26 points, 11 assists, 4 steals), Jackson (25 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, 6 blocks), Kimbell (16 points, 2 blocks). Philadelphia was led by Blunt (18 points, 16 boards, 1 assists), Austin (19 points, a steal, a block), Evans (24 points).
Portland stand at 24-9 and 13-4 at home. They hold at #1 in the Northwest and move up to #1 overall in the Western Conference. With this defeat, Philadelphia stand at 22-12. They stay at #3 in the Atlantic and remain at #5 overall in the Eastern Conference.
